Wreck Diving: The japanese World War II wrecks are our most popular dive sites, like for example the japanese flying boat tender "Akitsushima". Wreck divers can make an impressive penetration into the engine room to see the four engines. The "Irako" is quite intact and because of the good visibility you know you are on a big ship wreck. Penetration represents an advanced dive due to the depth, but the superstructure is interesting, with soft corals and sponges. The "Morozan Maru" is only in 14m depht which makes this wreck an easy dive for beginners. Barracuda Lake: The scenery around this lake is spectacular and the underwater terrain has been likened to flying over the surface of the moon. You won´t find much marine life inside the lake but there is a good chance for you to meet the lonesome barracuda who claims to be the "king of the lake". The Lakes of Coron Island have also won the award as the cleanest inland body of water in the Phililppines for several years in a row! Explore Busuanga Island on Motorbike The best way for you to explore Busuanga Island is to rent a Motorbike in Coron: Here are two possible routes you can take, and of course we can show you many more tracks: A beautiful part of the island is the Yulo King Ranch (YKR). The 40.000 hectare area is supposed to be the largest cattle ranch of South East Asia, but the number of cattle is rather low. The scenery looks a little bit like an African savanna. From Coron it is only a 45 minute drive the Yulo King Ranch. The YKR-Busuanga Airport is also located there. A few times a day you can see the small passenger airplanes touching down. To go on from the airport, drive to the beginning of the airstrip (watch out for airplanes!!!) from where you take the road to "Decalachao". The village of Decalachao is located at the north-east shore of Busuanga Island. A two hours ride along the "National Highway" to the Concepcion Waterfall can be a very adventurous ride. The small village "Concepcion" is located 36 km east from Coron. The village itself is not spectacular, but very peaceful and idyllic. If you become thirsty from the dusty ride (most of the roads on Busuanga Island aren´t paved) you can visit Michael and Elisabeth's "Pier House" at the seashore. Wildlife Safaris on Calauit Island The 3700 hectare large Calauit Island is the sanctuary of African and Palawan wildlife threatened with extinction. Calauit was decreed a game preserve and wildlife sanctuary in August 1976 by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos. It was the late President´s response to an earlier appeal made for Kenya by the International Union of Conservation of Nature to help save African animals caught in the midst of civil strife. Today giraffes, zebras and impalas live together with rare animals like bear cats, Calamian deer, mousedeer and Palawan peacocks, which are endemic to Palawan. The aviary is a recent addition. A guide drives visitors around the national park in a specially designed jeep for a fee of approximately US$ 5,-. Admission costs you another US$ 5,-. Because of the long travel time from Coron to Calauit Island (between 4 and 6 hours), we recommend renting a van or jeep in Coron. Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary is located on Calauit Island at the northwest tip of Busuanga. The Sanctuary is separated from the mainland by a wide belt of dense mangrove on the western side of Illutuk Bay. Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary (CGPWS) is the Philippines major conservation showcase for wildlife habitat holding the single distinction as the first successful wildlife translocation experiment in Asia. Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary was declared by Presidential Proclamation No. 1578 on August 31, 1976. It has total land area of 3,400 hectares with low-lying island in the Calamian group, north of Palawan, It is a short distance from the much larger island of Busuanga. The natural vegetation is lowland forest and mangroves along the coast. Much of the forest has now been replaced by plantations, secondary growth and open grassland. Marine habitat is said to have been haven to the dugong, sea turtles, giant clams, coral reefs and a sanctuary for commercial fish species as well. Access is possible by vehicle or by foot. Small rivers and creeks abound on the island, although most of these water sources dry up during hot months. Some springs provide year-long supply of water in ponds and lagoons. The Island is exposed to the southwest monsoon and rough seas from July to October. Fair weather and calm seas prevail from March to June. Average mean temperature of the island is 27.6 Degrees Celsius.

The "Makinit Hot Springs" Just 5 km from Coron town, at the end of the little village called "Makinit", two small and one large naturally occurring salt water springs on the shorefront, somehow bubbling from the mountainside despite their proximity to the sea. During the latter part of World War II, battalions of battle weary Japanese troops retreating from the Malaysian front made camp in this sitio to mend their wounds and rest for a few days. The healthy volcanic water here is in the range of 35 degrees Celsius.
